Illustration Friday - Wheels

The word for the week on Illustration Friday is wheel. I decided to draw a dog on wheels toy! I made my illustration in watercolor and colored pencils. I really like the soft colors and how it looks - plus it is inspired by one of my favorite songs by Belle and Sebastian!

Sketchbook Sunday - Thrift Stores and Self Portraits

I started to draw some things I found at thrift stores and a few self portraits. I like to draw clothes, so I focused on that. I also love to draw bunnies, so I added that, too! Only I am not good at picking up our pet rabbits at all. They are much too wiggly!


Here is a mug, a ceramic planter, and a dress I found at thrift shops. I might put them into a zine some day.


These are some drawings of clothing I got in vintage shops. The first one is me in the 1990's wearing a shirt dress from a friend and some Doc Martens shoes that I bought a few sizes too big. Why did I do that? The other pencil sketch is a top I got downtown - it makes me look like a waitress!


I found this plush squirrel at a thrift sale - and this squirrel is wearing a pink floral pattern dress!

Happy Earth Day 2012

We visited ATHICA for their most recent art exhibit, Upcycle. It was Earth Day, so we had a good time looking at local art made from recycled and unsuspecting materials.






This camper made by the Cap Man was really neat. I especially liked the pink flamingos and flowers - the centers of the flowers happen to be bottle caps, too!










These birds and flowers were cut from vinyl records.




Inside these juice bottle caps were individual miniature paintings. This was my favorite installation of the whole exhibit. I love miniature artwork, and each of these contained a beautiful painting.








Another part of the art opening was the Trashion Fashion Show. It was a great mix of materials made into wearable and not-so-wearable fashions. Just like Project Runway!






Happy Earth Day!

Artist Kyungmin Park

We went to the MFA Exhibition at the University of Georgia on Friday. There I got to see one of my favorite local artists, Kyungmin Park. I first saw Kyungmin's ceramic work at our friend Gary's office. Since then Gary has given us gifts of her ceramics and we love them so much. Now you can see some of her artwork from the MFA show. It is easy to see the appeal in her work.






I love the colors of these pieces and the detail in the eyes.

Sketchbook Sunday - Animal Friends

Time to check out some of my drawings that I have been making lately. I love to draw.


I like to practice drawing some animals, so here are some that I drew in my sketchbook. I love this sloth! They are really neat to watch, if you get to see one in real life. I saw one once at a zoo on vacation when I was a teenager.


There are some squirrels in our 'hood. They like to come and visit Nilla at the window in our craft room. They are adorable and playful. They are fun to watch.


Here are some more squirrels and some of their woodland friends. I love woodland and forest themes, cos I really am a mori girl!

I started to draw some more birds, so here is an owl in flight. Now that I look closer, it really looks like this little guy is going to play the xylophone!


Of course I am always thinking about bunnies! This is a happy bunny with a happy carrot.


And last, but not least, here is a bean-shaped bunny. Sort of a jelly bean! Yum!

Here is my comic that I made after my pal Nathan and I went to see the Monkees in Columbus, Ohio in 2001. Illustration Friday - Intention

The word for the week on Illustration Friday is intention. I used to take yoga classes, and when I did sometimes the instructor would talk about intention and practicing yoga with intention. In my drawing, this kitty is sealing his yoga practice with intention. Namaste!

Sketchbook Sunday

Here is another Sketchbook Sunday with a few of my current drawings. I thought I would write this post as I watch Downton Abbey (ooh, who else is watching? It is getting really good!). I made some new little drawings and I think they are coming along quite well...




These are drawn with my Pentel brush pen. I like working with it because the lines you can make remind me of some of my favorite line art from Andy Warhol.




I really like drawing animals lately. I mostly draw from my memory, but I also like to look at Pinterest and other websites for inspiration. I like looking at different sites for animals and patterns. I would like to make some of these little baby seals into a pattern for my Spoonflower fabric shop!
