What's Your Project? Tea Towel Embroidery

Making a Nilla tea towel.
This year I have been trying to work on at least one project a month for myself. This month I have been doing some embroidery. My friend mailed me a Stitch Kit, which is great because it comes with everything you need to begin stitching. I did not use the provided patterns, so I just drew on my tea towel with a pencil.

Embroidering paws.
I used back stitch and got the hang of it really fast. I embroidered before, but not in a long time.

I used the split stitch on the paws. It was a little tricky going around the curves of my illustration.

Cat embroidery!
Then I added the features to my Nilla embroidery! I love the way the face looks.

My Nilla tea towel that I embroidered. Now I added stars.
Last I added some stars around Nilla for a little pop of color and the stars are fun to stitch!

Tell the World About Etsy Athens Style

Over the weekend we had a walk around our town, Athens, Georgia. We took some photos of my handmade goodies from Shoppe Sugar Cookie on Etsy. We took these photos to add to help people learn about Etsy around the world, and to show a little local love for Athens.

Flossy the Giraffe Embroidery Floss Bobbin at the fabulous 40 Watt in Athens, Georgia.
Here is my Flossy the Giraffe Embroidery Floss Bobbin hanging out at the fabulous 40 Watt. How can you not love the 40 Watt? I have seen so many amazing bands here, it is for sure the best venue to see music in Athens. LUV!

Flossy the Pony Embroidery Floss Bobbin by the bulldog, Athens, Georgia. #etsyeverywhere
Everyone in Athens knows that the University of Georgia's team mascot is a bulldog, so these statues are all over town. This one is interesting cos it looks like a postcard with the type going across, and the other side (not pictured) has illustrations of local stuff. This photo features my Flossy the Pony Embroidery Floss Bobbin.

I also took this one with Tofu Baby.

We came across my Tiny Record Player Button in the window of Low Yo Yo Stuff! We did not even place that there, we just came across it this day. How cosmic!

Lastly, we went to see the double barrel cannon. I placed my Pickle Plush inside, then we called it a day. Hooray for Athens!

Summer ICE 2012

ICE Summer 2012 - 1229
Over the weekend Raoul took me to Indie Craft Experience, or ICE Atlanta. We had a good time walking around and checking out so many of the tables and awesome crafts. It was quite a mix! I did some shopping, too.

ICE Summer 2012 - 1231
We liked watching Noosh Studios pull their t-shirts through their very own portable printing press! How neat is that?

ICE Summer 2012 - 1233
I loved this display from Atlanta Institute of Stitches and Craft. They offered linen ribbon by the yard, yarns in all colors, cute washi tape, and crafting kits. How inspiring! I got a kit to make a miniature needle felted forest at their table.

ICE Summer 2012 - 1234
Some of the artwork on display that ICE attendees created at the craft station.

ICE Summer 2012 - 1227

ICE Summer 2012 - 1226

ICE Summer 2012 - 1225
Adorable earrings, barrettes, and jewelry on display at Camille's tables. You can find her beautiful goodies at Cameoko. I really like her fabric earrings and hairpins.

ICE Summer 2012 - 1228
We also sampled some yummy macarons from Bookie Macarons. Hooray for this new yummy addition to ICE! We had peach and earl gray flavors.

We had such a fun, busy day at ICE. We look forward to the next one!

Dolly Day

dolly 1187
I took a needle felting workshop at our local favorite store, Treehouse. My class made needle felted dolls. Here is mine, this is the first step. This is the form for the body, including the head.

dolly 1188

dolly 1190
I made my doll by working on needle felting the head and body first. Then I worked on the arms and legs. Here is my doll in progress. I think it looks sort of like a marshmallow head and body!

dolly 1191

dolly 1192
I attached the arms by needle felting them to the body. The teacher said to try and make this as seamless as possible. This takes a lot of poking the felt with the special barbed needle. It is fun, and the more you felt the wool, the tighter it becomes, and my doll sort of shrunk a little at this point. It did help shape the doll's neck and arms, though.

dolly 1193
I added the legs the same way I added the arms. Here is my doll in progress.

dolly 1194
I decided my doll is mori girl inspired, so I gave her natural color tights. I used a light color that was mottled and pale tan color.

dolly 1195
This is as far as I got in my first class! I really like how my doll is shaping up at this point.

dolly 1196
I worked on some outside of my class, too. I added brown shoes with yellow buttons. I think they look really mori girl and they came out so cute!

dolly 1198

dolly 1200
I added a camisole as her underpinnings.

dolly 1201

dolly 1202
And then she got some undies!

dolly 1206

dolly 1207

dolly 1208
Here I added her hair. Then I felted it at the part. I did mine down the center and I made braids. I did not felt or tie the braids, so later on I can maybe give her a different hair style later on. I think she looks cute with the long braids. She looks really mori girl then!

dolly 1209
I am adding her face next.

dolly 1210

dolly 1211
Now she has a face! I made her have green eyes.

dolly 1212

dolly 1213
I sewed her some clothing - a top from an old turtleneck my mom gave me. I used a boatneck shirt pattern from my Blythe dolls. It fits her pretty good! I made a little skirt from some eyelet lace.

dolly 1214

Then my dolly went to school!
